As many of you know, I’ve been trying to balance my art career and Postal job since 2000. I’ve come to the point that I have so many projects and opportunities on deck that it’s time to commit to my art full time. It’s a big step. I’m excited and can’t wait to see what new adventures await me. Below is an update:
- Making Art – I have been experimenting with photography, fiber, installation, video, sound and even conceptual art but my first love is painting. For the next year I will be developing a new body of work to show and sell. This includes painting outdoors in Washington, DC and the surrounding area. Who knows, you may spot me around the National Mall or on a random city street painting at my easel. If you do, say hello!
- Starting an art and sketching tour business in DC – For the last ten years I’ve been volunteering as a docent at the National Gallery of Art (NGA). Recently, I’ve been elevated to the designation of Master Docent. Many of you have taken my NGA tours and have been so kind in telling me how you enjoy them. Well this convinced me to combine my love of making art and talking about art and launch my own tour agency. I’m still getting all the pieces in place but plan to launch this summer.
- Writing About Art – My tenure at the NGA has revealed to me that there are still gaps in telling the full history of art and artists, especially when it comes to local DC artists, women and people of color. So I am working on a few research projects, a book and two video series to bring visibility to these artists and tell these stories.
If you want to keep up with all my shenanigans, you can subscribe to my newsletter by sending your email to firstname.lastname@example.org. It will be published monthly starting in May. Also more changes will be coming the website as these projects make their debut.
